After completing his degree at Sunderland, Stuart went on to the International Glass Centre at Brierly Hill in the West Midlands, where he specialised in glass blowing and cold cutting techniques. This was followed by two years employment as head production maker and designer at a small studio factory in the Lake District.
In 1991 Stuart returned to Sunderland to set up his own business with a permanent cold workshop, also teaching part time in the glass department at the college. More recently, he has moved his business to Nottingham with the facility to work in hot and cold glass production together.
