Sue Dyer

Sue uses a stained porcelain slip which is carefully intermixed to produce a variety of bold and subtle shades of colour. Each piece has been fired twice: once to 950 c which gives strength to enable the sanding process, and then to 1260 c allowing for final sanding, achieving the exquisitely fine surface quality.

Sue's new series of vessels have been inspired by the coastal landscape and the seasons. They invite meditation on the particular, through the coloured inlay, and on the universal, through the simplicity of the porcelain form. Her use of inlay on porcelain shows an extraordinary technical accomplishment and her present work demonstrates a much freer and more painterly approach than in the past.
