Gill Galloway Whitehead

Gill works directly with the material, preferring not to sketch ideas first but to let the fine wire help dictate the next step.

The range of jewellery includes earrings, neck pieces and brooches and it is with the brooches that Gill explores her unique techniques to their full potential.

Gill likens her brooches to paintings; they are miniature abstracts. Each one is different from the next, allowing free expression. Using the different densities of the mesh, Gill creates shapes and surfaces much in the same way one would use paint. She introduces gold wire as well as oxidised silver, to give contrast to the piece.
