Maureen Minchin

Maureen is both a potter and a wild life artist. Originally trained as a potter, Maureen learned all the skills required to make functional tableware on a potters' wheel. From her workshop in Norfolk she used the abundance of wild life as inspiration in her work. The pieces were snapped up by keen collectors and Maureen's work developed more and more confidence. From the smallest mug to the largest bowl, each piece tells the story of the countryside. Designs are often arranged in a kaleidoscope pattern filling the surface of the three dimensional piece with borders of wild flowers and grasses.
Maureen recently moved to Scotland; the influence clearly shown in the new work. Cormorants sit confidently on the lids of jars and otters and fish, swim freely amongst the reeds. Each piece is coated in a creamy slip before firing and it is into the leather hard clay that Maureen draws her designs. This method requires spontaneity and accuracy, the first line has to be the intended one!
